Myanmar Earthquake 2025: Death Toll, Damage, Rescue Efforts, and Latest Updates

The central region of Myanmar experienced a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit near Mandalay on March 28th 2025 which caused many fatalities and substantial damage across the area. One thousand fatalities and 2,376 injuries and many missing persons were reported on March 29.

The earthquake created its worst devastation in Mandalay because it damaged every building and warpt roads while destroying bridges. Tremors caused by the earthquake reached Bangkok Thailand at 600 miles distance which led to a skyscraper construction collapse and multiple deaths and unaccounted persons.

Multiple international aid entities including China as well as United States and India and Russia and Malaysia and Indonesia participate in the rescue operations. Several countries have sent emergency rescue personnel together with medical resources and economic help to contribute to rescue operations. United Nations dedicated $5 million for the delivery of quick relief support.

The civil conflict within Myanmar creates obstacles to relief services since it blocks humanitarian aid from reaching vulnerable areas thus worsening the existing humanitarian crisis. The military administration of the country implemented emergency rule throughout six regions while issuing international requests for support to address the aftermath of the disaster.

The death count will increase according to predictions because rescue personnel conduct continued searches through demolished building debris. The earthquake has activated worries about the durability of buildings throughout the area along with the readiness of metropolitan centers to manage natural disasters. Economic losses due to the earthquake surpass the GDP of Myanmar according to U.S. Geological Survey estimates.

Since the 1930 Bago earthquake Myanmar has encountered its most lethal earthquake which shows there is an immediate necessity to develop better disaster preparedness alongside enhanced infrastructure resilience in the region.
